South Dallas Home with No Known Smoking Gun for the Source of Water Damage
A south Dallas home had water that would pool downstairs every time someone took a shower. There did not seem to be a smoking gun for the cause of the issue.
A plumber was brought in to further investigate the issue. The plumber made some exploratory cuts but could not come up with a definitive source. The best he could figure was that the bathtub upstairs was leaking. The suggestion was to tear up the bathroom to reveal the source.
The owner then called SERVPRO of Dallas Central to dry and see if we had any ideas. After using our moisture meter and thermal camera we ruled out the upstairs. We then focused on the wall by a mysterious drywall patch. The owner indicated the patch happened a month ago. It seemed to be coming from that area. We made a cut into the patch at it revealed a shattered pipe. The damage was done by a stray bullet hole the month earlier. We had literally found the smoking gun. While not happy about the damage, he was beyond relieved that we found the source. He was no longer going to unnecessarily tear up his bathroom. We dried out the structure in short order and then replaced the drywall shortly after.
